STRESS, BURNOUT & RUMINATION

Do you urgently need rest and relaxation?

If you are experiencing constant rumination, overwhelming feelings of stress or even burnout, counselling can help you to identify the triggers or reasons for your feelings. In my counselling sessions you will explore the causes of your personal stress, burnout and overwhelm. You will then develop skills to manage your time, energy, thoughts and feelings so that you can reduce stress and find more energy. The aim is for you to be able to live your life in a way that makes you feel good, both mentally and physically.

What is stress?

The stress response is an active adaptation to a situation that we have to cope with in our daily lives. A distinction is made between two types of stress - positive stress (eustress) and negative stress (distress). A certain amount of positive stress can therefore be desirable, because it challenges us and helps us to develop our potential. However, too much stress can make us feel constantly rushed and overwhelmed, which has a negative impact on our health.

Why am I stressed when others are not?

Stress is not an emotion, but a reaction to physical or mental triggers that we may encounter. The nature of these triggers is different for each person and is highly individual. What one person finds "stressful" may be challenging or even enjoyable for another. Therefore, it makes little sense to compare stress reactions from one person to another.

Health effects of too much stress

If we don't manage the stress in our lives, it can affect our physical and mental well-being. Some common symptoms are:

- disturbed sleep or insomnia

- Indigestion and problems with bowel function

- heart palpitations

- muscle twitching

- profuse sweating
- irritability

- anxiety

- depression

Often the discomfort begins with excessive racing of thoughts

Certain issues or situations in life sometimes lead to obsessive thinking. This thinking often becomes the focus of daily life for many people. Life crises, stress, excessive demands or worries lead to excessive circular thinking. The mind becomes stuck in an endless loop. When negative thoughts and ruminations get out of hand, it is important to become aware and seek help.

«There are times when we stop, we sit still. We listen and breezes from a whole other world begin to whisper.» - James Carroll
